Arthur F. Strohmer, Jr., 84, of Tinton Falls, NJ, died February 3, 2022, at home. Art was a resident of the Seabrook Village Retirement community in Tinton Falls, NJ, before which he was a longtime resident of Sayreville, NJ. Art retired as Executive Director of Human Resources for Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, and Whitehouse Station, NJ. Before joining Merck, he was a training manager for United Airlines in Chicago, IL, Management Development Manager for Armour & Co., Chicago, IL, and Training Director for a division of IBM in Princeton, NJ. Born in Baltimore, MD, he moved to Catonsville, MD, at the age of 12 and lived there until he graduated from college and began his work career. Art was a graduate of Valparaiso University, IN, and did graduate work at Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, IN, and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was an active member and communicant of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Tinton Falls, NJ. Previously, he was a longtime member of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in East Brunswick, NJ, before he moved to Tinton Falls, and was active in many church activities, the foremost of which was the church choir. Art is the author of “The Skills of Managing,” published by Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, and was the author of numerous articles on Human Resources activities and issues. He retired from Merck & Co., Inc., in 1993, and has since enjoyed gardening, stock market activities and investing, his friends, his church activities, and, above all, his cats, who were his constant companions over more than 30 years. Art was born to Arthur F. Strohmer and Anita Wiedey Strohmer on October 24, 1937, in Baltimore, MD. He is survived by his sister, Carol (Ralph) Zahnow, of Middleton, WI; a niece, Laura Zahnow, of Concord, CA; a niece, Staci (Greg) Davis, and a great nephew, Logan Hicks, of Newport News, VA; and his longtime best friend Lou Ballester and Lou’s family and children of Valley Township, PA. He is also survived by his close friends, Martin Capozzi, Arlene “Bunny” Gitomer, Marvin Mandelbaum, and Glenn Schacht. Art will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Bongarzone Funeral Home in Tinton Falls, NJ. Cremation will be private. A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Luther Memorial Church, 818 Tinton Avenue, Tinton Falls, NJ. The service can be viewed through the church’s website (lmcnj.org).
