Demaris A. Bodnar

July 15, 1933 - April 18, 2021

Demaris A. Bodnar, 87, a resident of Jamaica VT, peacefully passed away April 18, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Tinton Falls NJ. Demaris was born in Olney, TX on July 15, 1933 the daughter of the late Pete Ashley and Mary Mccustion, she attended local schools there and was employed as a long-distance operator for AT&T after graduating High School. She married her husband Elmer Bodnar, an Airmen, in Texas on December 20, 1952. During her husband’s time in the military and while he was going to college, she held various jobs. After settling in New Jersey, she worked for a publishing company and typeset many books. She took this job because she could work from home, something not heard of at that time. She eventually got a job at Bell Labs in Holmdel, NJ as a word processor. She retired from Bell Labs (Lucent) in the 80s. They retired to Jamaica Vermont where she was a communicant of the catholic church at the Chapel of the Snows in Stratton where she played the organ. She was active in the church and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hats. She is survived by her children Bridgette Smith and her husband Robert and her son Andrew Bodnar of NJ. As well as grandchildren Jessica, Nicholas, Samantha Smith, and Saoirse, Caoimhe, Ambrose, and Niamh Bodnar. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation for Demaris will be held at Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Rd., Tinton Falls, NJ on Thursday April 22, 2021 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial gifts in Demaris’s memory may be made to Chapel of the Snows, PO Box 246, Putney, VT 05346. **Due to limited capacity, we ask that you keep your visit brief so that all guests will be able to offer their condolences. Masks must be worn on the nose and mouth inside the funeral home at all times. Thank you for your kindness during this difficult time.**
