Denise R. Chewey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Denise R. Chewy, 91, of Ocean Township passed away on Monday May 6, 2019 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was born in Trenton, New Jersey and raised in Bay head, New Jersey, and has been a resident of Wayside, New Jersey for the past 56 years. Denise was a Home Economics major from Marywood University, Scranton, Pennsylvania and worked as a Clothing Designer for Lord & Taylor in New York City. She was a communicant of St. Anselm’s parish in Tinton Falls for over 50 years and involved in several committees. Her talents were best utilized in sewing and embroidering the parish’s baptismal bibs for 30 years. Denise was also active in the local community, especially the Girl Scouts where she was a leader for over 20 years. Her commitment to the program won her several achievement awards along with the countless number of young lives she touched. She had a passion for animals, loved line dancing, taught sewing and design, enjoyed hiking and biking whether it be a nature trail in Shenandoah National park in Virginia or a stretch of beach in Fort Meyers, Florida where she was fortunate to winter for over 30 years. She is predeceased by her great granddaughter Ava Byrne and is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Vincent Chewey, her three loving daughters; Karen Ralston of Mt. Dora, Florida, Cheryl Korbul of Hazlet, New Jersey and Roberta Amedio of Franklin, Massachusetts, a sister Virginia Colagouri of Palm Beach Shores, Florida, 3 sons-in-law, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Visitation will be held from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday May 9, 2019 at the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 am on Friday May 10, 2019 at the Church of St. Anselm, 1028 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls. Entombment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery & Mausoleum, Oceanport.
