Judith Ann Gibbons passed away 0n Thursday May 4, 2017 in Toms River, after struggling for 4 months with complications from an infection. She was born in Newark on March 22, 1939, the daughter of John and Agnes (Lyons) Gibbons. She was the devoted mother of Lawrence Torres and his wife Jayne of Pompano Beach, Florida, Sharon Betz of Point Pleasant, NJ, Marie Metta and her husband Danny of Toms River, NJ, Susan Torres and her husband Steve Graham of Port St. Lucie, FL. And William Connell of Bricktown, NJ. Judy was button busting proud of her grandchildren’s accomplishments. Teasing and laughing with them brought her great joy. They are; Jennifer and Larry Torres of (FL), Samantha, Frankie and Danny Metta of (NJ); Carlos Cantor (NJ) and Anthony Cantor (FL), Matthew Betz (NJ), Jessica Connell (NJ) and her darling great granddaughter Myha Cantor (FL). Judy’s care and oversight will be greatly missed by her brother Rev. John J. Gibbons of Toms River, the late James Gibbons and sister Mary G. Mcloughlin of Vermont. She is also survived by her nephews, James Kean and Keith Gibbons, Sean McLoughlin and her favorite niece Meghan M Pacheco. Judy loved her many cousins especially “the Mahon’s” with whom she enjoyed many family gatherings with. No one will ever forget the colorful personality who greeted them at Mrs. J’s. her luncheonette that she operated in West Orange from 1975 to 1994. Judy has lived in Toms River for 23 years, enjoying neighbors, bingo, cards. she always took pride in working with children for many years within the school district. She was also very proud of her Irish-American heritage, serving as Deputy Grand Marshall of the West Orange St Patrick’s Day Parade in 1990 and was the Secretary/Treasurer for the Irish American Club for many years. Viewing will be held 2 -4 pm and 6-8 pm on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls. A funeral mass will be offered 11:00 am Wednesday May 10, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Avenue, West Orange, NJ. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
