Phyllis M. Colicchio died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 25, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents Emanuel and Frances Riggi, her husband Alphonso Colicchio,her brother John Riggi and sisters Mildred Lore and Lucille Colicchio.Phyllis is survived by her children Patricia -ColicchioTrucker, Dr. Alan Colicchio, Patrick Colicchio and Phyllis Colicchio-Tartagllia. She had nine grandchildren and one great grandchild-Jeremy Trucker, Michalina Fulmore,Joshua Emanuel Berger, Lana Rose Berger, Maria Kristel, Adam Colicchio, Patrick Colicchio, Gabrielle Colicchio, James Colicchio, Andrew Colicchio and great grandchild Abram Fulmore. Phyllis was born and raised in Linden, New Jersey. She worked for the Linden Board of Education for over 20 years and was very involved with the PAL. Phyllis loved to read and read almost a book a week this past year. Her passion was walking the “Boards” eight miles from Long Branch to Monmouth Beach for many years. She walked or rode her bike everywhere. Phyllis was known around town as the bike lady. She painted with oils and won honorable mention for her paintings at the Monmouth County Fair. Phyllis moved to Monmouth County in the 1980s to be closer to her grandchildren. She spent her retirement years attending piano recitals, school shows , soccer games, dance recitals, graduations and even chaperoning class trips. Phyllis spent the last 5 years at Atria Assisted Living in Tinton Falls. She was widowed at the age of 34 and devoted her life to raising her four children. As a single mom, Phyllis stressed the importance of education, not only to her children, but to her nieces and nephews, who admired her strength and followed her example. Phyllis was a woman of substance and a force to be reckoned with. She would have been 90 on September 29 and was looking forward to reaching that goal. A memorial gathering will be held Sunday August 28, 2016 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls.
