Thomas M. Smith, 58, resident of Eatontown passed away January 5, 2014. Tom was born in Jersey City on April 27, 1955 the son of the late Margaret L. Smith, Eatontown, and Walter R. Smith, Spring Lake. He attended Eatontown Public Schools and graduated from Monmouth Regional High School in 1973. Over the past years, Tom worked as a lifeguard for Gateway National Park Service, Sandy Hook and U.S. Virgin Islands. Also, he was a captain for Sea Tow and was a contract scuba diver. For a period of time, Tom worked for Eatontown Public Works Department. Tom will be remembered for sharing his life stories, his love for the beach and water, his gentle kind nature, the playfulness he gave to his nephews and nieces, and for the loving care he provided to his mother, Marge. Tom is predeceased by his mother, Margaret Lydon Smith and sister, Kathy Ann. Tom is survived by his father, Walter R, Smith and his wife, Marie, of Spring Lake. Three brothers; Charles, Walter Jr. of Eatontown, Richard and his wife, Andrea of Tinton Falls. Two sisters; Peggy Macdonald and her husband Kevin, of Fairbanks, Alaska and Anne Marie Lodato and her husband, Frank of Tinton Falls. Six nephews and nieces; Miles and Wesley Macdonald, Danielle and Megan Lodato, Andrew and Catelyn Smith. Two uncles; Martin Lydon and his wife, Dorothy of Laguna Nigel, CA, and Thomas Lydon of Hackensack, NJ. Great Aunt, Margaret Ahearn, Bayonne, NJ and many cousins. The family will have a private service. Donations in the memory of Tom Smith can be made to the Community YMCA, 170 Patterson Ave., Shrewsbury, NJ 07702, to assist financial needed families to join the YMCA.
