Carol Ann Neis (Lawrence) Born 1937 East Orange NJ Our mother lived a life defined by service, leadership, sisterhood, and unwavering compassion. Born in 1937, she entered the world as a mirror twin to her beloved sister Phyllis Leis—a bond that shaped her life with shared joy, humor, and strength. A proud graduate of The University of Connecticut, Class of 1959, she was a member of Phi Beta Phi , MDA in Human Development from Fairleigh Dickinson in 1982. and carried her love of learning into every chapter of her life. Her professional calling emerged early: caring for others. She served as the Woodmere School Nurse from 1973 to 2000, becoming a steady, reassuring presence for generations of students and families. Her work with the Board of Health further reflected her commitment to community well‑being. She broke barriers with quiet determination. One of the First Female EMT's in the State of New Jersey in 1973. As the first female President of EMS North, she served three terms—1978–1979, 1986–1987, and 1992—leading with courage, clarity, and a deep sense of responsibility. Her dedication to emergency services extended beyond leadership; she was also an active member of the Northside Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, always ready to support those who served on the front lines. Her community involvement was rich and varied. She lent her voice to the Eatontown Choraliers, preserving local history through the Eatontown Historical Society, and rolled up her sleeves with Habitat for Humanity, helping build homes and hope. She cherished her friendships as a proud Red Hat Society member, embracing joy, laughter, and sisterhood in her later years. Through every role—nurse, leader, volunteer, singer, historian, builder, sister—she embodied generosity and purpose. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the organizations she strengthened, and the community she helped shape. She will be remembered for her kindness, her service, her trailblazing spirit, and the love she carried into every room. A graveside service will be offered at 10 am on Wednesday July 8th at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Family has requested in lieu of flowers donations to the: American Cancer Society.
