Joseph Michael Lyons

Joseph Michael Lyons, 73, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025. He was born in the Bronx, New York to the late William and Dorothy McLean Lyons. Joe began his professional career in Information Technology at Telerate Systems in New York City, where he not only found work he truly enjoyed, but also formed many lifelong friendships—and met his wife. Throughout his career, Joe took great pride in his work and deeply valued the people he worked with at every company along the way. His career was a source of great fulfillment for him. Above all else, Joe loved his family. His three boys were the light of his life, and he was overjoyed when they blessed him with three wonderful daughters-in-law and seven cherished grandchildren. When the entire family was together, Joe’s smile could light up the room. Joe enjoyed many activities and adventures with friends and family. Sharing beach houses and ski houses with close friends created countless happy memories and stories that will be treasured forever. He loved playing softball and bowling and was PADI certified. In his later years, his greatest joy was spending time on the golf course with his friends and his sons. Joe was a proud member of the Jersey Shore Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh and the Odd Fellows, where he found great happiness in his charitable work. He also lovingly accompanied his wife in her life at St. George Greek Orthodox Church of AP/Ocean. Joe especially enjoyed helping during hospitality hour and the festival. A highlight of the season was when Joe played Santa Claus for both church and Odd Fellow events—a role he was perfect for, always offering a big hug and a warm smile to everyone he met. He is predeceased by his siblings, Burt Skrebis, Linda Ferrara and Mickey McEntee. Surviving is his beloved wife, Antonia Lyons, his loving sons, Joseph Lyons Jr. and his wife Nicole, Scott Lyons and his wife Jenna and Billy Lyons and his wife Beth, his cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie, Tommy, Katie, Brady, Addison, Leo and Phoebe, his dear siblings, William Lyons and his wife Evalyn, Dorothy Aromando and her husband Edward, Bonnie Sulkowski, Margaret Dana and Cheri Garcia. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A visitation will be held at the Bongarzone Funeral Home on Tuesday December 23, 2025 from 9 – 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Church of Saint Anselm,1028 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, New Jersey at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Neptune. Following the service, a repast will be held at Kelly’s Tavern, 43 NJ-35, Neptune City, NJ.
