Gene Harold (Pop) DeMeter, Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gene (Pop) Harold DeMeter Sr., 87, of Oakhurst, NJ a devoted Husband, Father and exceptional Grandfather and Great Grandfather passed away on Friday June 10, 2016 at his home. He was born in Neptune, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Oakhurst. Gene worked construction as a hardwood floor layer before joining the Ocean Township Police Department; he worked 25 years with the department retiring in 1986 as Sergeant. After his retirement he went back to work as a construction worker. Gene was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean War as a parachutist, parachute rigger and operating an Aircraft Taxi. He was a member of the New Jersey State Patrolman’s Benevolent Association (NJ-PBA), The American Motorcycle Association (AMA), Founding member of the Monmouth Shore Points Motorcycle Club chapter 0981, and a member of the Gimbal Lehy Quirk VFW Post 2226 of Oakhurst. Pop was an avid Hunter, Fisherman and Outdoorsman who was beloved by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his wife Elsie Mae (Betty) DeMeter in 1991, his parents Edward and Adelaide DeMeter. Surviving is a son Gene H. DeMeter Jr. and his wife Nancy of Oakhurst; a daughter Lisa Carr and her husband Dan of Somerset, Pa; five grandchildren, Gene H. DeMeter III and his wife Kristen, Ashley E. DeMeter and her fiancé Alex, Austin D. Carr, Blake R. DeMeter and Samantha J. Carr; a great granddaughter Lillian Grace DeMeter. He is also survived by his brother Edward DeMeter and Sister Olive Brower and her husband Eugene. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday June 16, 2016 at the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls. Family and friends are asked to gather on Friday June 17 at 11:00 am for the Interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to: VFW post 2226, 212 Norwood Avenue, Oakhurst NJ 07755 .
