Lily Hor

August 11, 1930 - February 17, 2021

Lily Lai Hor, 90, passed away suddenly at her home in Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, NJ on February 17, 2021 due to heart failure. Born August 11, 1930 in New York City, Lily is survived by her loving relatives: husband Kenneth Hor; son Jeff Hor and granddaughter Kelsey; daughter Leila (Richard) Miller and granddaughter Jamie; and sister Shirley (Bing) Chu. Lily grew up in New York City and began working at J.B. Williams Pharmaceuticals at the tender age of 16. She married Ken on September 23, 1956 and initially settled in Brooklyn, NY. After two children, they moved to a house in Garden City Park, Long Island, NY where she began her career in the New York Court System. Her hard work and quick wit advanced her up the ranks to Court Clerk Specialist, Accounting Supervisor of the New York State Surrogate’s Court. Lily had a passion for life and lived every day to its fullest. She was an excellent cook. While she was famous for her Chinese dinners, she experimented with all types of cuisines and was equally famous for her spaghetti and meatballs and Pot Roast and Spaetzle. She enjoyed hosting holiday dinners and family gatherings. She loved to travel and enjoyed the food and culture of all the different countries of the world. Lily also loved to dance. She and Ken wowed onlookers with their vast repertoire, from the Waltz to the Rumba. Their active life included bi-monthly trips to Atlantic City where Lily was extraordinarily lucky. She shared her winnings with Ken and her children believing the more she gave, the more she would win. Lily made friends everywhere she went. She engaged people with her openness, generosity and loving nature. She spoke honestly and used her gift of common sense to offer frank advice. Along the way, Lily was highly respected, treasured by her friends, and loved her family fiercely. A memorial service will be conducted once the Covid-19 pandemic is under control and circumstances permit.
