Marilyn Jean Folker
January 5, 2020
Marilyn Jean Folker passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2020 in Northville, Michigan. Born in Manhattan, New York, she spent most of her life in Harrington Park, New Jersey before retiring to Manchester, New Jersey in 1990. Marilyn had an eye for fashion and worked as a showroom model before marrying Charles W. “Charlie” Folker in 1948. She raised three wonderful children, who she put through college by working at Volvo of America, a job she thrived in. Marilyn was the life of the party. She loved to sing, dance, and entertain. Quick with a joke, she was a natural poet. Marilyn enjoyed reading a great biography, watching old movies, and relaxing at the Jersey Shore. Long before the fitness boom, Marilyn exercised regularly and went to the gym well into her 80s. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Charles W. Folker; son Charles D. Folker; mother Edith Kursch; and siblings Henry Kursch (Josephine), Donald Kursch (Eleanor), Virginia Sutley (Stanley), Edmund Kursch (Claudette Desplanches) and Norman Kursch. She is survived by her daughters Donna Hogan (Joseph) and Heidi Clarke (Christopher); daughter in-law Kathleen Iannacone; grandchildren Erin Glass (Jeff), Nicholas Folker (Heather), Shannon Gorey (Brendan), Joseph Hogan (Kristina), Christopher Clarke, Kyle Clarke, Dana Clarke, and Dylan Clarke; great grandchildren Lillian Glass, Juliet Glass, Charlotte Glass, Rory Hogan, and Niamh Gorey. Loved by many, Marilyn’s greatest accomplishment was her family, who she loved fiercely, and who will keep her memory alive. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls, New Jersey. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2020 at Christ Church of Shrewsbury, 380 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury, NJ 07702. An interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn Folker’s memory to: St. Christine’s Soup Kitchen 22261 Fenkell Street Detroit, Michigan 48223 http://sccsdetroit.org/how-to-help/donate-funds/ or to the Ocean County Library-Manchester Branch 21 S.
