Richard John Gerhold

Richard J. Gerhold, 84,Tinton Falls, formerly of Wayne, NJ, a retired Mechanical Engineer, died on December 18, 2010. Born in Queens, New York, Mr. Gerhold attended Long Island City High School in Queens and enlisted in the US Army and served in World War II in Europe. After being discharged he gained an engineering degree studying nights at Brooklyn Polytechnic. He rose to be senior engineer at AT&T being responsible for the design and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems across the USA. A keen tennis player and wood carver, Mr. Gerhold was a member of the Veterans’ Association, The New Jersey Canal Society, and the North Jersey Woodcarving Club. He was a volunteer guide at Montclair and Waterloo Village. He and Anne were keen travelers and visited many parts of the globe including Germany, Greece, India, Mexico and Japan. He is survived by his wife Anne, his son John Gerhold of Totowa NJ, his daughter Suzanne Stanley of England and his grandchildren Katelyn Gerhold, Christopher Stanley and Joshua Stanley. A memorial service will be held in the Atrium at Seabrook Village on January 4, 2011 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the American Heart Association.
